Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the Modi government of using a parliamentary debate on “Vande Mataram” to divert attention from urgent public issues ahead of the West Bengal elections. She claims the move is politically motivated and intended to shape the Prime Minister’s election narrative.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a special session in the Lok Sabha marking 150 years of “Vande Mataram.” He highlighted the national song’s historic role in the freedom movement and its continued significance as a symbol of unity, urging citizens to uphold its enduring values.

Mallikarjun Kharge congratulated the newly appointed Rajya Sabha Chair, emphasizing the constitutional importance of the role and expressing confidence in transparent, impartial functioning. Citing democratic principles and noting the unprecedented exit of former Chair Jagdeep Dhankhar, Kharge reaffirmed the opposition’s commitment to orderly parliamentary debate.
